The Ostrý Hotel (755 m) is located in the most significant tourist centre of the western Bohemian Forest – in the picturesque small mountain town of Železná Ruda in the glamorous surroundings on the edge of the Bohemian Forest National Park (68,000 ha) - which forms a natural reserve UNESCO together with the adjacent protected landscape area that covers a total area of 178,000 ha.

The hotel was completely reconstructed in 2003, and it was enlarged by a relaxation centre. It has already offered its guests quality services in agreeable surroundings for many years. The location of the hotel in the centre of Železná Ruda is convenient for the spring, summer and also autumn seasons due to its setting directly on the main tourist and cycle route linking the Bohemian Forest and the Bavarian Forest as well as for the winter season with the possibility of downhill and cross-country skiing in the grounds situated in the immediate vicinity. Thus, it becomes an ideal starting point for the realization of varied sports, tourist and relaxation activities.

The hotel has a capacity of 69 beds in 25 rooms. All rooms are functionally equipped with practical comfortable furniture, a television with satellite reception and a telephone, a separate bathroom with a shower bath or a bath and a toilet.

Description of vicinity: Trips to Černé jezero (Black Lake), Čertovo jezero (Devil´s Lake) and Lake Laka (1096 m) are among the most favourite ones. Trips to Špičák and Velký Ostrý to the area of Královský hvozd (cycle routes). Visits to the parish and pilgrimage Church of the Birth of the Holy Virgin near Strašín and the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Holy Virgin in Hojsova Stráž. Trips to the Kašperk Castle and the prospect tower on the Pancíř hill. Visits to nearby Bavaria (frontier crossing 2 km) ? the Bavarian Forest the National Park (cycle routes), aquapark in Zwiesel, etc.

Suggestions for hikes: The nearest ski slope „U nádraží“ (“At the Station”) is situated 200 m from the hotel, it is 1 km long and suitable for families with children. SNOWTUBING is available there, too. Ski resorts Samoty and Belvedere, fewer than 500 m far away, are also good for family skiing. Another ski resort Špičák (1,202 metres above sea level) lies fewer than 2.5 km from Železná ruda (5 ski slopes, a four-seat chairlift, 9 ski tows, snow park). We recommend all skiers to go to a nearby glamorous German ski resort Gross Arber (1,456 metres above sea level) located 9 km away – a modern centre of ski sports, the venue of the World Cup in skiing with a cable car, chairlifts, ski tows and downhill courses for both the exacting sports skiers, and also for recreational skiing for the beginning and advanced skiers. This resort is referred to as Mont Blanc of the Bavarian Forest. Železná Ruda is an ideal starting point for cross-country skiers as well, in the surroundings there are lots of maintained trails (about 100 km), and these are not only on the Czech, but also on the Bavarian side of the Bohemian Forest (Arberland).
