Suggestions for hikes: The town of Prachatice belongs to the best preserved urban complexes in the Czech Republic; its historic centre has maintained the original Renaissance appearance inside a ring surrounded by period city fortifications. Thus, in 1981 the historic core was pronounced a Urban Conservation Area, which level of monument protection has been awarded only to 40 most intact towns. The town of Prachatice pays extraordinary attention to monument care within the Ministry of Industry's Regeneration Programme. History and culture fans may be interested to see also other historic sites in the area such as Master Jan Hus's birthplace in Husinec, Kratochvíle Château, Vimperk with a permanent museum exposition, or Český Krumlov Castle and Château, whose architectural properties, cultural tradition, and size place it among the most significant monuments of Central Europe. North of České Budějovice is located the magnificent Hluboká nad Vltavou Château, which was constructed in the place of a former Gothic castle. This most significant Neo-Gothic building in the Czech Republic was inspired by Windsor Royal Castle, England. A large English park with many rare tree species, walking paths, and views of the surrounding landscape adjoins the Castle. Near Bavorov there are large ruins of the Helfenburk Castle, originally a Rosenbergs' Gothic castle dating back to the 14th century. The Kleť Lookout Tower with a restaurant lies on a hill rising more than one thousand meters high (the highest peak of the Blanenský Forest Mountains). It can be easily accessed either by a chair lift, car, or with more efforts on foot (the hiking trail under the chair lift is interesting). This is an ideal trip for water sportsmen who are staying at the Dívčí Kámen campsite. In a cloudless weather (ideally winter frost), you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Alps. Strakonice, the town of Švanda, the bagpiper, has a castle with the "Winch" lookout tower where there is a wonderful view of the town.
